Do yo
u ever work so hard on a solution to a problem that you are not sure what fixed the problem? I had an earlier post about my Treo 700wx and Vista woes. I finally decided to replace the device. I purchased a Blackberry Curve 8330. I was so excited that I had a Blackberry. My enchantment did not last long. I felt that everything I did took me several steps more than my Treo. Although the main screen was in color I found most of the programs and interface was monochromatic and boring. After several weeks I returned the device, paid my fee to Verizon and purchased a much more expensive device. Surely this one would meet my needs!
My next foray into the smart phone market was the HTC Touch Pro from Verizon. I paid a pretty penny for this device so I was certain since it ran Windows Mobile it would be an awesome device. I was sadly disappointed. The setup and sync went fine with the HTC Touch Pro but again I found the interface sadly lacking. On my Treo I was able to put picture speed dialing. Love that feature. Could not do it on the HTC. The slide out keyboard and boxy design of the device I found awkward. I could not hold the device with one hand which I again found awkward. For the price tag on the device I found the design lacking and it did not offer any features nicer than my Treo. After two weeks of trying the device I again returned another device to Verizon.
My quandry remained that I needed a device that synced with Outlook. Several weeks prior to my venture into replacing the Treo I had reinstalled my operating system on my computer. When I went back to using the Treo I thought I would reinvestigate why my Treo would not work with Vista. I redownloaded all of my software, updates and did a hard reset of my device. I plugged in my USB cradle (which is not supposed to work with Vista) and put my Treo 700wx in the cradle. It worked! Everything is syncing fine. I can update on a regular basis. They only glitch I have at this point is that my OneNote software will not install.
So the moral of this story is check and recheck before replacing a device. I would have restored my operating system months earlier had I known that was what was causing the hang up. My Treo works, I didn’t have to spend $499 to replace the device and I am happy!
